About This Quote

We are all living history, and it’s hard to say now what will be important in the future. One thing’s certain, though: if we throw it away, it’s gone. When you look at the past, you see what is important. You see what could have been better or worse.

You see how our forefathers lived. You see how they loved one another. You see why they fought wars over silly things like religion or politics.

You see that the world was not always this way. If nothing else, you can take comfort in knowing that there are things that are no longer important. We are no longer worried about making war on one another because all of our country’s economic problems have been solved.

We no longer think about having religious disagreements because everyone is happy to be part of a single religion instead of many religions fighting for attention. We no longer worry about overthrowing governments because we have found a better way to make them work for us. That is why what has happened in the past matters even today.
